From Hampton, Iowa newspaper dated January 27, 1938:
"SERVICES MONDAY FOR MRS. LEWIS GREEN. "Chapin Woman Answers Final Summons Last Friday. "Chapin, Iowa, Feb. 2. - Miss [sic] Lewis Green, daughter of J.H. and Elizabeth Switzer, was born at Chapin, May 10, 1896, and answered the final summons at her Chapin home on Friday, January 28, 1938, after a brief illness from the effects of a cerebral hemmorrhage. The deceased was a resident of Franklin county all of her life, most of the time at Chapin or in its vicinity. She received her education in the county schools and in the public school of Chapin, and on February 20th, 1915, was united in marriage to George Lewis Green, at Hampton. Four sons and three daughters were born of this union. For a number of years, Mrs. Green had not been in good health but her sudden passing came as a shock to the family and her many friends and neighbors. Loyalty to her home and family and friendliness and kindness to her associates were outstanding characteristics in her life. Mrs. Green was a member of the Church of Christ, at Hampton. Besides her husband, Mrs. Green leaves to mourn her departure her aged father, J.H. Switzer, of Geneva; four sons, Robert, Lyndel [sic], Darren [sic] L. and James J., three daughters, Mrs. D.C. Barney, Maxine and Pearl Green, of Chapin; four brother (sic), Will Switzer, of Hansell; Earl Switzer, of McIntire; Wayne Switzer, of Moberly, Missouri; and John Switzer, of Princeton, Illinois, and two sisters, Mrs. G.A. Menning, of Hampton, and Mrs. R.C. Daehler, of Waterloo. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Congregational church in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Herbert Marsh, of Rockwell, and burial was made in the Old Chapin cemetery."
