CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Ellen Gates, 90, of Charles City, died Thursday (March 31, 2005) at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.
Funeral services for Ellen Gates will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Ruth Yeaton, of the First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in West Side Cemetery, Marble Rock.
The family will greet friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.
Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen Louise Melugin Gates was born June 24, 1914, at Marble Rock, the daughter of William and Myrtie (Keith) Melugin. She graduated from the Marble Rock High School.
On June 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Darrow Gates at Charles City. Darrow died in 1957. Ellen worked in various restaurants and as a housekeeper for a number of years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star. Ellen enjoyed fishing, baking and working crossword puzzles.
Living family members include a son, D. Blaine Gates of Mason City; two grandchildren, David (Kathy) Gates and Jennifer (John) Bennington; five great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Melugin of Fredericksburg and Margaret Majewski of Greene; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; an infant grandson, Douglas Gates; a daughter-in-law, Dorothy Gates; four brothers and a sister.
