Charles D. Smith Oldest Resident of Marble Rock Died.

A native of Ohio, he came to community as child in covered wagon.

Funeral Planned Tomorrow Afternoon -

Charles Daniel Smith, age 94, believed to have been the oldest resident of the Marble Rock community, died Monday at his home west of town. Death was caused by infirmities of advanced age.

Funeral services are planned tomorrow afternoon at the Marble Rock Methodist church under the direction of the Rev. H. F. Mercer of Greene, pastor of the church, and burial will be made in West Side cemetery at Marble Rock.

Mr. Smith was born November 12, 1852, in Erie County, Ohio, the son of Mr. and Ms. Ambrose Smith. He came to Iowa with his parents in a covered wagon. The family settled in the Marble Rock Community.

He was married twice, to Emma Smith in 1897, and later to Mary Ette Keith. There are three children by his first marriage, a daughter, Mrs. Frank Hibner, by his second marriage, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Mertie Melugin, and three step sons, Clifford Keith, Claude Keith, all of Marble Rock and Ray Keith of Charles City.

There are also seven grandchildren, a brother, Hugh Smith of Charles City, and two sisters, Mrs. Rosabella Robinson and Mrs. Minnie Nobel, both living in California.
