Funeral Wednesday For Carl A. Rex, 78

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Faith Baptist church in Marble Rock for Carl Rex, 78, who died Sunday at a convalescent home in Waterloo.

The Rev. Sheral Gregory, church pastor, was in charge of the services. Masonic services were held at the graveside at Hillside cemetery, Charles City.

Carl Alton Rex was born Dec. 19, 1887, the son of Charles Thomas and Esther Manchester Rex, at Marble Rock.

He attended the Marble Rock schools and in his younger years was a musician and singer. He worked as a barber with his father in Marble Rock, and also barbered in Eldora and Cedar Falls.

He was also a member of the town band in Cedar Falls.

He was married to Edith Marie Smith of Eldora July 18, 1911. He had been in ill health since his early thirties and since 1962 was confined to a convalescence home in Waterloo.

He is survived by his wife, Edith of Eldora, two sons; Edwin F. Rex, of Osage, Dalton C. Rex of Lafayette, Ind., one grandaughter, two great-grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Earl Clay of California.

Rites Held for Carl A. Rex, 78.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, March 30, in Faith Baptist Church Marble Rock, for Carl Alton Rex, 78. Rev. Sheral Gregory officiated.

Carl Alton Rex was born at Marble Rock on December 19, 1887, and passed away in a Waterloo Convalescent home, where he had been a resident since 1962. Mr. Rex died after an extended illness which had required constant care since his early thirties.

He was a barber, having worked with his father at Marble Rock and in shops at Eldora and Cedar Falls. In his younger years he was an accomplished musician and singer and while in Cedar Falls was a member of the town band.

He is survived by his wife, Edith Rex of Eldora, two sons, Edwin F., Osage and Dalton C. of Lafayette, Indiana; one granddaughter, Jacqueline Rex Allee, two great grandchildren, Michael and Connie Allee, all of Lafayette; and one sister, Mrs. Earl Clay of California.

Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Marble Rock, where Masonic rites were conducted.
