Mary Ellen Tidt was born at Baraboo, Wisconsin, June 29, 1855, and died at her home in Marble Rock, Iowa, December 19, 1911, aged 56 years 5 months and 22 days.

When a girl, nine years of age, she came to Iowa with her parents and has ever since made her home in this community. Here she grew to womanhood and on December 2, 1875 was united in marriage to H. N. Merrick.

Though a christian from early childhood, Sister Merrick did not identify herself with any church until September 8,1889, when she united with the Methodist Episcopal church at Cold Water, later being transferred to Marble Rock.

To this church she has ever been a faithful member and earnest worker. Her council was always sane and just, tempered by a love that was Christ like. Many are the kind and loving deeds known and recorded in the hearts of the recepients, and today were the opportunity given, many would rise and call her blessed.

As is always the case with those who are living true lives, those who knew her best loved her most.

Though suffering the severest physical pain her christian fortitude was suffcient unto the end; she passed away as she had lived, rejoicing in a Saviour's love.
