Belva Doris Castle Nicholson Cerwinske Schiff

Belva (Mrs. Robert) Schiff, a resident of 22 8th St. SW, Rockford, died Wednesday morning Jan. 12, at her home of cancer.

Funeral services for Belva Schiff were held Saturday in the United Methodist Church at Rockford. The Rev. Shirley Meendering, pastor, officiated. Burial was in the Riverside Cemetery at Rockford.

Belva Doris Castle Nicholson Cerwinske Schiff was born Nov. 24, 1930,at Portland, the daughter of Vern A. and Marion (Trimble) Castle. She received her education in the Rockford schools and in February of 1949, she and Arthur Nicholson were married. He died in 1972.

She married Richard Cerwinske on Dec. 28, 1972 and he died in 1989.

On May 10, 1991, she and Robert Schiff were married at Mason City. She was employed at the former Trowbridge Super Market in Charles City, the Trettin Hatchery and Kalt Variety Store in Rockford as well as working at the Nora Springs Nursing Home.

While living in Glendale, Calif., she was employed for seven years at the Adventist Hospital. She was a member of the Moose Lodge.

She loved to go camping, listen to bluegrass music and play Bingo.

Living family members include her husband, Robert, of Rockford, a daughter and her husband Connie and Rodney Knapp of Charles City; two sons, Dale of Hampton and Dean and his wife, Kelly of Rockford; her mother, Marion Castle of Glendale Calif.; her grandmother, Sarah Castle of Rockford; three stepsons and their wives, Steve and Mary Schiff of Mason City, Donald and Barbara Schiff of Manlius, Illinois, and Marvin and Brenda Cerwinske of Hampton; four stepdaughters and their husbands, Patrica and Jim Lasco of Munndelein, Illinois, Sandra and Jim Smith of Bloomington, Illinois, Jean and Gary Bectal of Lake Mills, and Marlene and Bryon Tapp of Hampton; two brothers, Verne "Bud" Castle of Waterloo and Fred Castle of Charles City; one sister Jane Ann Nealand of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; six grandchildren and 19 step-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, two husbands and a step-grandchild.
