Funeral service for Geraldine Janssen, 95, of Marble Rock will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016, at Retz Funeral Home, 519 N. First St. Greene with Pastor Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Retz Funeral Home in Greene.

Geraldine Janssen was born on August 17, 1921, in Mason City, Iowa, one of ten children born to Leonard and Ida (Miller) Ewers and died Monday, December 5, 2016 at the Valley View Care Center in Greene. She received her education in the public schools in Mason City.

She was united in marriage to Arthur Janssen on April 2, 1944, in Mason City. To this union were born two children: Carolyn Mullen and Larry Janssen. Geraldine worked at Deckers in Mason City. Geraldine and her husband moved to a farm in Marble Rock in 1971, where they lived for the next forty-five years.

She loved music and dancing. Geraldine enjoyed going to auctions, yard sales, horse sales, and taking rides in the country. She had a soft spot for kittens and was an accomplished cook. Most of all Geraldine loved to work in her huge vegetable garden. Geraldine’s tea parties with her great-granddaughter, Cheyenne were also cherished times.

She is survived by her son, Larry Janssen, Marble Rock; granddaughter Amy Keeling, Greene; two great grandchildren: Casey Bean, Ankeny; and Cheyenne Oswalt, Greene; beloved friend, Jeff Winters; many friends.

MARBLE ROCK, IOWA - A funeral service for Geraldine Janssen, 95, of Marble Rock will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Retz Funeral Home, Greene.

She died Monday, Dec. 5, 2016, at Valley View Care Center Greene. Pastor Paul Phillips of the Gospel Lighthouse in Floyd, will officiate and burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Visitation will be 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the funeral home.

Retz Funeral Home, Greene, is in charge of arrangements.
