Alice Larene (Patzer) Mayer, the daughter of Christian and Emma (Nuss) Patzer, was born January 22, 1934 in Delmont, South Dakota. She grew up in the Delmont, South Dakota area before moving with her family to Austin, Minnesota, at a young age. She attended school in Austin, graduating from Austin High School. Alice was united in marriage to Romanus "Main" Mayer on July 7, 1953 at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Charles City where Alice raised their family and took care of the home.

Alice was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic church where she was involved in the church circle. She enjoyed being a part of the Foster Grandparent Program in Charles City, baking, crafts, playing cards, puzzles, playing cards, board games and playing cards (as you can tell, Alice loved playing cards, especially for pennies whenever possible). Alice always had baked goods at her house for friends and family whom she loved so much. Her family meant the world to her and spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought great joy to her life.

Living family members include her daughter, Cindy Caldwell of Charles City; son, Jeffery (Camie) Mayer of Golden Valley, Minnesota; four grandchildren: Jessica (Chris) Thomas, Melissa (Ian) Pitzenberger, Rebecca Caldwell and Isabelle Mayer; four great-grandchildren: Alyssa, Nikolas, Eliyah and Liam; three sisters: Shirley Olson of Owatonna, Minnesota, Loretta Nelson of Austin, Minnesota and Veleria "Larry" Branstad of Owatonna, Minnesota; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Romanus "Main" Mayer on July 11, 2015; two sisters: Verna Mills and Vernita Branstad; and her brother, Arlington Patzer.
