NORA SPRINGS, IOWA — Clifford Shafer, 80, of Nora Springs, passed away Sunday, Nov. 27, 2016, at Nora Springs Care Center, surrounded by his family. He was cremated, per his wish.

A visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016, at the Kimzey Funeral Home, 213 North Main Street, Mount Pleasant, Iowa, 319-385-2244.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be directed to the family.

Clifford was born on June 7, 1936, the son of Clarence (Jake) and Elizabeth (Westerbeck) Shafer. He graduated from Mt. Pleasant High, class of 1954. Cliff joined the United States Army and was honorably discharged when his father died. He married Carlene (Wolfe) on August 12, 1967, in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During his life, Clifford worked twenty-seven years and retired from the Medium Security Mental Health Institution in Mt. Pleasant as a carpenter and maintenance man.

Clifford was an avid fisher and hunter. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling and horseshoes. However, his most memorable moments were spent watching his grandchildren at their sporting events and activities. Sign up to get each day's obituaries sent to your email inbox

Clifford is survived by his wife, Carlene, of Nora Springs; son, Bill (Barbara) Shafer, of Nora Springs; three grandchildren: Jacob, Ava and Carly Shafer; sisters: Delores Booton, Evelyn (Mansel) Beavers, of Mt. Pleasant, and Patty Morrow, of Fontana, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Clifford is preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Robin Lynette Shafer, son, Robert Graf, and sister, Sandra Shafer.
