Obituary for Donald Junior Kock

Donald Kock, 88, of Nora Springs, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Scenic Manor. Graveside services will be 2:30 pm Thursday, July 14, 2016 at the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm Wednesday, July 13 at the Woodley Funeral Home in Iowa Falls and also from 1-2 pm Thursday, July 14 at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Donald and his family. 641-648-7700.

Donald Junior Kock was born December 10, 1927 on a farm south of Rockford, Iowa, to George and Luella Kock. The family moved to Rudd, Iowa in 1930. Don graduated from Rudd High School in 1947. He was an avid basketball player and also a pitcher and outfielder for the baseball team. On August 9, 1950 Don married the love of his life, Joan “Joey” Idso.

The following year, he was drafted into the U. S. Army and served from 1951-1953. He returned home and worked for his father-in-law at Idso’s Packing Company from 1953-1968. He purchased the packing business and operated it until retiring in the fall of 1983. After retirement Don worked one summer for the City of Nora Springs, drove cars for auto dealers and drove vans for army recruits.

Don loved to fish and went on several fishing trips including Canada. He also enjoyed tinkering in his workshop. He could repair or fix almost anything. He was neat person and always liked things orderly. He always stressed, “When you get done using something, put it away. That way you always know where it is.”

Other passions included flying airplane and riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. His famous motto was, “Be Happy!” Don was a member of the American Legion and First United Methodist Church in Nora Springs, Iowa.

Donald Kock is survived by his daughter, Candace Obrecht of Iowa Falls, Iowa; sister, Dorothy (Craig) Wood of Rudd, Iowa; two grandchildren, Mark (Lisa) Obrecht of Delano, MN and Shawna (Kirk) Beaubien of Iowa Falls, Iowa ; six great grandchildren: Shelby and Riley Obrecht and Jase, Demi, Anden and Talon Beaubien as well as cousin and best friend, Michael LaCoste. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Luella Kock, his beloved wife, Joan and in-laws Glen and Inez Idso.
