Obituary for John "Jack" F. Lehmann

John "Jack" F. Lehmann, 74, of Rockford, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at his home following a 15-month journey with brain cancer. His trust in Jesus carried him through to the end, surrounded by the love and support of his family.

Memorial Services will be held 10:30 am, Friday, July 22, 2016 at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 East Main, Rockford. Officiating will be the Rev. Dan Gerrietts. Visitation will be Thursday, July 21, from 4:00 until 7:00 pm at the church. Private inurnment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea, MN. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Zion Lutheran Church or the Fossil Prairie Center (both in Rockford), or to the family for a continuing education scholarship in Jack’s name for RRMR. Jack was born in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Kenneth and Irene Lehmann. He attended Albert Lea High School. He then graduated from the University of Minnesota with a teaching degree. His first teaching position in 1965 was in Miami, Florida with Dade County Schools.

In 1966, he accepted a teaching and coaching position with Forest City Schools until he joined the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock Community Schools in 1970 and retired in 2000. As he continued his education at Drake University and Mankato State, he received his Master’s in Education and Endorsement in Counseling. He was intensely proud of his students’ achievements and high school basketball and golf teams’ many successes.

Jack was united in marriage to Barbara Hegland at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea on August 7, 1965. They were blessed with three children. Jack’s love and priority was always for Barb and his family followed by the community of friends, church family, students, and co-workers he touched during his life.

In 2002, Jack and Barb began spending winters in Arizona and summers at their cabin near Park Rapids, MN. Jack enjoyed time with family and friends and especially liked playing golf, pickle ball, tennis, fishing, and pheasant hunting. He was a devoted fan of the Minnesota Vikings and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Those who he unequivocally loved include his wife Barb of 50 years, three children and five grandchildren, Peter and his wife Colleen, Los Altos, CA, Julie and her husband Kevin Hicks, and their children Michael, Benjamin “Luke”, and Brady of Coeur d’Alene, ID, Mark and his wife Kathie along with their two children Ellie and Anna, Mason City; his sister Judy (Jim) Nelson, Mesa, AZ, his sister-in-law Carol Hegland, Sun Lakes, AZ, and several nieces and nephews and cousins.

Jack’s parents preceded him in death.
