CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Alfred Mohring, 82, of Charles City, died Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Bill Odermann from St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating.

Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City is in charge of local arrangements.

Alfred Mohring, 82, of Charles City, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service for Alfred Mohring will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 11, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Bill Odermann from Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Sunnyside Memory Gardens in rural Charles City.

Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the funeral home on Monday.

Alfred Wilhelm Mohring, the son of Otto, Sr. and Bertha (Thein) Mohring, was born April 20, 1934 in Floyd County, Iowa. He was educated in the Charles City Community Schools, graduating from Charles City High School. Alfred enlisted into the United States Navy on January 28, 1955 and was honorably discharged on March 14, 1955 after being injured.

He was united in marriage to Marlene Sido in April 1960 and this union was blessed with two children, Kevin and Kelli. The couple later divorced. Alfred did roofing work for Hills Construction and Becker Construction. He was also employed at Oliver/White Farm doing heat treatment.

Alfred was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. He enjoyed whittling wood, wood working in general, hunting, fishing, traveling, putting puzzles together (framing some of his favorites) and visiting with family and friends. Alfred also liked to collect belt buckles and model airplanes.

Living family members include his two children: Kevin Mohring and Kelli (Thomas) Schmit; two grandchildren; sister, Margaret Blanck of Charles City; brother, Ervin Mohring of Charles City; along with many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; by two sisters, Myrtle Sherbon and Doris Banks; and two brothers, Ernest Mohring and Otto Mohring, Jr.
