CHARLES CITY, IOWA — Donald “Don” Krall, 57, of Charles City, died Sunday, April 24, 2016, at his home.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Monsignor John Hemann celebrating.

Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 28, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Friday.

Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, is in charge of local arrangements.

Donald "Don" Krall, 57, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, April 24, 2016, at his home after a short, courageous battle with lung cancer.

A funeral Mass for Don will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, 2016, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City with Monsignor John Hemann celebrating the Mass. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be at Hauser Funeral Home from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, April 28, 2016, and will continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass at the church on Friday.

Donald Alan Krall, the son of Edward and Evelyn (White) Krall, was born April 26, 1958, in Charles City. He received his education in Charles City, graduating from Charles City High School in 1976. Don attended NIACC in Mason City obtaining training and a degree in HVAC maintenance, repair and installation. He worked in the HVAC industry for a number of years in both Rockford, Illinois and Minneapolis, Minnesota before moving back to Charles City to care for his parents. Don was their sole caretaker who dedicated himself to their well-being, enabling them to remain in their home.

While taking care of his parents was his primary concern, Don also worked as the groundskeeper at Wildwood Golf Course in Charles City. He took great pride in all his efforts making the golf course look great and play well. Don was very aware of nature around him, being in tune with the animals and respecting his surroundings. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan.

Don was very patriotic, which he attributed to his father, and was his father's guardian on his honor flight to Washington D.C. Family was very important to Don, and he would always have a funny story to share when everyone gathered together. He was known as the "cool" uncle. Usually if there was anything that could happen, it would happen to Don and he would share it with his storytelling abilities. Don took great pride in his Czech heritage and family history. He was a very good cook, especially remembered for his chicken wings and Reubens.

Living family members include his two sisters: Karel (Jeff) Brengman of Rochester, Minnesota and Janis (Bob) Steblay of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; nieces and nephew: Ryan (Tina) Brengman, Kiersten (Mike) Bretton-Billmeier and Marissa (Joe) Hansen; great nieces and nephews: Julian, Vivica, Nadia and Leo; other relatives and numerous friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Evelyn; and his goddaughter, Elissa Brengman.
