Nola Kerulis, 73, of Charles City, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at the Medical Center of McKinney, in McKinney, Texas.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 19, 2016 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City and continue one hour prior to the funeral Mass on Saturday at the church.

Nola Kaye (Townsend) Kerulis, the daughter of Nolan and Katharine (Bonsall) Townsend, was born on March 18, 1942 in Charles City. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1960. Nola attended Personal Training Institute in Omaha, Nebraska, which lead to her first job at Western Union Telegraph Company in Chicago, Illinois. Nola was united in marriage to Francis "Frank" Andrew Kerulis on July 20, 1963.

After the children were older she made the brave move to go back to school and follow her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse. Nola attended Hawkeye Institute of Technology, graduating with a nursing degree. She worked at Bartels Nursing Home in Waverly as a nurse.

Nola was active in Lincoln School PTA as a Secretary and Co-Chair of Lincoln Carnival. She was a lifetime member of Girl Scouts as a troop leader and older girl advisor. Nola attended conventions in New York, Miami Beach, and worked at the Cloud Girl Scouts in Dubuque. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, where she held office as a local chapter President and later as Secretary and Chaplin at the state level. Nola enjoyed sewing, genealogy, knitting, and crocheting.

Living family members include two daughters, Catherine Lee (Sam) Theodore of San Diego, California, and Victoria Lynn (Robert) Knochenmus of Allen, Texas; six grandchildren: Katharine Marie, Elizabeth Ann, Grace Lorrine, Mathew Walter, Elijah Samuel, and Faith Noelle; one brother, Roger (Patricia) Townsend of Charles City, Iowa; nephew, Roger Townsend, Jr.; niece, Kim Townsend; and special friend, Mary Ann Townsend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank, and grandson, Francis Fletcher.
