Richard "Dick" Wayne Tibbitts, the son of Arvin Tibbitts and Glenda (Otto) Link, was born on January 4, 1952 in Charles City. Dick attended Colwell Schools through the eighth grade and then graduated from Charles City High School in 1970. He worked at Heinold Hog Station in Charles City, Oliver/White Farm, Owatonna Tool Company, and Smith and Sherman Nurseries. Growing up he enjoyed playing baseball with his brother. He looked forward to attending "Minnesota Twins" games. Dick enjoyed going through his baseball card collection, memorizing their stats and listening to the games on his blue transistor radio. He wrestled in high school and enjoyed competing with his future brother-in-law. Dick enjoyed working alongside his brother on the farm, where they spent time together.
Dick enjoyed bowling, camping, canoeing, hunting, fishing with his family and friends. Every day he would walk to HyVee and have coffee with friends. He looked forward to Sunday dinner eating with his mom, sisters, and their family. Dick was always concerned about his family's welfare, especially his great nieces and nephews and they said "he always gave the best horsey back rides". In 1992 Dick, his dad, Ryan and Beau drove to Alaska. Dick always wanted to fly so he and his mom flew to Las Vegas to visit Aunt Wilma and Uncle Chuck. He talked about these trips for years. He was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City.
