The Herald, Sunday February 20, 1869

CARVER – In Charles City, Iowa, Tuesday morning, Feb. 16, 1869, ALTA MIRA, wife of Henry Carver, in the 73rd year of her age – Springfield, Mass., and Delaware Co., N.Y. paper, please copy.

The deceased was born April 11th, 1796, in Hampden Co., Mass. Her father, Gideon Jones, was one of those revolutionary heroes who was first to respond to the call, to arms, shouldering his musket he made his way on foot to Boston, with other brave spirits who had joined him, and there mingled in the strife which seven years later brought freedom to America. During the last three years of the revolution, Sargent Jones, as he was always called, was attached to Washington’s 60 day guard.

In early life, Mrs. Carver emigrated with an elder sister to Delaware County, N. Y., then quite a new country, where she married in 1831. Some years later her health began to fail under the premonitory symptoms of consumption, and in 1857 a removal to Iowa was decided upon. Here her health visibly improved and no doubt life was prolonged a number of years. At last she sleeps-sleeps well.

An affectionate wife, a good mother, a true friend, has gone home. D.D.W.C.
