MRS. L. KNOWLTON DEAD
One of the Oldest Pioneer Residents of Floyd County Passes Away Yesterday Morning
Mrs. LaFayette Knowlton, one of the oldest pioneer residents of this county, passed away early yesterday morning, at the home of her son Chester Knowlton, five miles north and one mile west of this city. The cause of death was pneumonia, coupled with the weakness of extreme old age. The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon, at 2:00 o'clock, conducted at the home of her son, and burial will be made in Oakwood cemetery near Floyd.
Mrs. Knowlton came to this country from Wisconsin, with her husband, in 1855 and settled on the farm where she died. Together with her husband she moved to Rudd about nine years ago and has since resided there. Two weeks ago Mrs. Knowlton left her home for the purpose of visiting in the homes of her sons, in and near Floyd.
Had Mrs. Knowlton lived until next month she would have celebrated her 86th birthday. She has lived a long and useful life. Her passing will be the source of keen sorrow on the part of her immediate family and many friends. Her long journey through life has been a very remarkable one and the panorama of changes which passed before her eyes in the settlement and building up of this part of Iowa has not been permitted to many others.
Besides her husband, she leaves three children and their respective families to mourn her death. They are: Mrs. Geo. Carmen of Rudd, Charles Knowlton of Floyd, and Chester Knowlton, who resides on the old homestead.
