William Deford Esser – December 10, 1876 – June 30, 1952
LAST RITES WEDNESDAY FOR CARTERSVILLE MAN
Charles City – Funeral services for William Esser, 75, will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Catholic church at Cartersville, the Rev. Father Latner of Rockford officiating. He died Monday in a hospital at Charles City after several weeks’ illness.
Mr. Esser was born December 10, 1876, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Esser. He farmed all his life near Cartersville.
He is survived by two sons, Leo of Rockford, and Lester, of Mason City; six daughters; Mrs. Betty Larson, Dougherty, Mrs. Dorothy Ross, Greene; Mrs. Leone Coonradt, Bettendorf; Mrs. Rose Wilhelm, Marble Rock; Mrs. Arlene Lambert, Rockford; Mrs. Alice Strickler, Mason City; a sister, Mrs. James O’Keefe, Nora Springs and 19 grandchildren.

Note: He married Lena Mary Backer on October 14, 1919 in Dougherty, Iowa. Marriage record also shows his birth place as Buckingham, Illinois. His first wife Anna Mary Backer (who was a sister of his 2nd wife) died in 1915.
