Lena (Backer) Esser – January 23, 1901 – June 27, 1950
Rockford – Funeral services were Thursday at Cartersville for Mrs. William Esser, 49, farm woman near Rockford, who died unexpectedly early Tuesday at the Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles city, where she had been taken after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage an hour earlier at her home southwest of Rockford.
She was born January 23, 1901, at Rockford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Backer. She married to William Esser in 1918. The couple farmed near Rockford since their marriage.
She leaves her husband; eight children; Betty Esser, Charles City; Mrs. Dorothy Ross, Greene; Mrs. Leone Coonradt, Davenport; Mrs. Rose Wilhelm, Dougherty; Mrs. Arlene Lambert, Rockford; Mrs. Alice Strickler, Mason City; Leo Esser, Rockford, and Lester Esser, Mason City; 13 grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Lawrence Kelbur, Iowa Falls; three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.

Mrs. William Esser, born on January 23, 1901, died of a cerebral hemorrhage Tuesday, June 27, at Rockford. She was preceded in death by a daughter.
Those surviving her are a sister, one son, a step son and six daughters, one of which is Mrs. Clifford Ross of Greene.
