Died: September 30, 2015

Irving Orville Field, age 90, of Osage and formerly of rural Nora Springs, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2015, at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 5, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Bruce Kaltwasser officiating. Burial will be in the Rock Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Irving was born October 3, 1924, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Martin O. Field and Emily (Bystol) Field. He was baptized November 18, 1924, and confirmed October 30, 1938, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Clear Lake, Iowa, by Pastor S. M. Stenby.

Irving attended rural school at Cedar #5 in Mitchell County and graduated from the Plymouth High School in 1942. He was a member of the West Cedar Cyclones 4-H Club and later became a leader of that club.

Irving married Harlys Huebner on October 14, 1945. Shortly after their marriage, they became members of Rock Creek Lutheran Church. Irving farmed on the home place near Nora Springs, Iowa, for many years. In 1968, he went to work as an adjuster and field representative for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company for 23 years. Irving served on the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company Board of Directors of Mitchell County as a director for 42 years and president. As a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church, he served as Sunday school superintendent and teacher, congregational president, treasurer, brotherhood officer, choir member, and in the men’s quartet.

In 2001, Irving married Pauline Odegaard after Harlys’s death. They enjoyed their winters in Texas, traveling, baking, and each other’s companionship. In 2013, they moved to Apple Valley Assisted Living and recently moved to Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Irving is survived by his wife, Pauline Field of Osage; a son, Allan (Kay) Field of Osage, and daughters, Ann (Alan) Schallock of Floyd and Ronda (Scott) Smith of Mason City. He is also survived by his stepchildren, Bonnie (Lowell) Schlotzhauer of Austin, Minnesota, Paul (Carol) Odegaard of Lake Mills, and Roger (Janie) Odegaard of Northwood. Grandchildren include Jennifer (Corey) Broton, Aaron Schallock, Katherine (Nathan) Ketelsen, Tana (Todd) Field Goselin, Lonna Field, Levi Smith, Logan (Amy) Smith, Bryan (Kimberly) Odegaard, Lisa (Barry) Wangsness, Adam Odegaard, Molly Odegaard, Sara (Gary) Grena, Rachel (Timothy) Knutson, Erin (Michael) Schnoor, and Joanne Schlotzhauer; numerous great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

Irving was preceded in death by his wife, Harlys; his parents; an infant son, Stephen; his sister, Margaret Sponheim; brother-in-law, Harold Sponheim; sister-in-law, Shirley Vikturek; two brothers-in-law, Everett Vikturek and Glen Huebner.
