GREENE, IOWA - Albert F. Fenzloff, 77, of Greene, passed away quietly at his home Thursday, August 6, 2015.

A gathering of friends and family will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Albert’s farm, 2797 290th Street, Greene, Iowa 50636, Saturday, August 15, 2015. Albert’s wishes were to have everyone stay after the memorial service for a good, old-fashioned picnic.

He was born at the old Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City, Iowa, on August 12, 1937, to Albert F. and Millieda (Engel) Fenzloff. When Albert was two his father passed away. Al and his mom moved to Minneapolis in 1941 where his mother worked for the war effort. They returned to Charles City after World War II and continued to live at 1312 F. Street. Albert lived there until entering the Navy in 1958.

Albert was a talented singer. He was selected for All-State Choir for four years during high school, performing with other singers from all over Iowa, at the old WHO Theater in Des Moines on Thanksgiving weekend. Albert also sang in choir and was soloist for many occasions at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City, where he was also baptized and confirmed.

Albert also loved to race cars. He owned and raced his own car in the late 1950s at the Charles City Race Track down by the old Moose Lodge.

Albert proudly served from 1954-1958 with the B Battery Field Artillery Iowa National Guard (Red Bull) in Charles City, Iowa, until enlisting in the US Navy in 1958. His Naval career took him from Fort Sill, Oklahoma, to Millington, Tennessee, for Electronic training. Duty stations included the Philippines, Japan, San Diego, California and Moffett NAS, Mountain View, and California.

Albert left the Navy upon completion of his Associates Degree from Foothills College. He went to work for Spectra Physics — one of the original Silicon Valley start-up technology companies. He worked on government contracts for the development of the gas laser. The technology that Albert worked on was later developed into the retail store scanner.

Albert and family moved to Minneapolis in 1964. He continued his career in electronic engineering at Honeywell’s space center in St. Anthony, Minnesota. Albert continued to work on government contracts and gas lasers. He also worked as part of a team working on the development of the mammogram.

Albert and his family moved back to the family farm in Iowa in 1974. Although working a variety of jobs after returning to Iowa, he came home to farm with his step-father, Ralph McDonald. He also loved and excelled in raising and showing rabbits and was rewarded with several honors and selected as a show judge. In addition, Albert served on the Board of Directors of Comprehensive Systems for several years including numerous years as President.

Albert’s greatest joys and accomplishments always came with family by his side, from Jeffrey’s Special Olympics, Scott’s spelling bees, wearing his Navy uniform to walk Andrea down the aisle, daily working side by side with Collin, the birth of Connor and anticipating the arrival of Oliver. He loved his family with all of his heart — every moment, every day.

Albert married Donna Mae Matthews on March 7, 1958, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Donna passed away June 6, 2001. Albert and Mitzi E. Dahl married at their home in Charles City on December 23, 2003.

Albert is survived by his wife, Mitzi; his children: Jeffrey Blake Fenzloff of Greene, Jon “Scott” Fenzloff of Cedar Falls, Andrea (Daniel) Wilde of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Collin (Lacey) Klemp of Mason City; two grandchildren: Connor Mathew Klemp born on August 3, 2015, and Oliver Daniel Wilde, due early October of 2015; his beloved dogs: Edith, Edgar, and Edison; and his cats: Ingrid, Ivy, and Isabella.
