Joseph Harlan “Joe” Ackley – June 11, 1877 – February 3, 1955
JOE ACKLEY DIED THURSDAY
“Joe” Ackley passed away at the Cedar Valley Hospital February 3rd at the age of 77 years, eight months and three days after being in poor health for several years.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church Monday afternoon, February 7th with Rev. Max Paige officiating. Burial was in the West Side Cemetery.
Mrs. Weldon Sult and Mrs. Dallas Hearn sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beautiful Isle of Somewhere.” Mrs. Cecil Swant and Mrs. Emmet Malady were in charge of the flowers.
Joseph Harlan Ackley was born June 11, 1877 at Downs, Kansas, the son of Sarah Jane and Solomon Judson Ackley. He came to Iowa with his parents in a covered wagon at the age of four. He received his education in country schools near Marble Rock and attended the Methodist Church.
He was married to Mae Arhart January 17, 1900. To this union was born three sons; Judson of Vancouver, Washington, Myron of Floyd, Iowa and Herman of North Hollywood, California. His wife passed away in 1923. He was married to Minna Nickolas on June 29, 1929.
He is survived by his wife, Minna, his sons, Judson, Myron and Herman, his sister, Mrs. Nellie Arhart, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren besides a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and sister, Arminta Ackley, two half-sisters and a half-brother.
