Memorial Service for Gene Eldon Reser, 90, of Greene will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 13, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Greene with Pastor Ann Donat officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation and family time will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Gene Eldon Reser was born on July 7, 1924, in Colwell, Floyd County, Iowa the son of Samuel Francis and Mary Ellen (Chesnut) Reser and died Sunday, May 31, 2015, at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

Gene attended country schools in Cerro Gordo and Butler Counties and graduated from Aredale High School in 1942. In high school Gene played baseball and received a trophy for his excellence in the sport in 1940. He and his family moved to Bennezette Township in Butler County in 1934 where he remained until moving to Greene in 1980.

Gene was united in marriage to Avis Eilene Barnett on November 18, 1946, in the Methodist Church, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Gene was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aredale before joining the United Methodist Church in Greene in 1980. They farmed in Bennezette until retirement.

Gene loved to fish in northern waters and became an avid golfer shortly before retiring. He continued to go out to the farm and help during planting and harvest time for several years after retirement. He was a good friendly person who loved to visit and tell stories of old times.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Avis; two children, Jacqueline Kay (Bill) Worley, Greene; Richard Lee (Nancy Manning) Reser, rural Bristow; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Roberta (Emanuel) Wolf, Adrian, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Gene was preceded in death by two sons, Gary Leon Smith and Clark Eugene Reser (in infancy); his parents; one sister, Joyce Irene Tourtellott; three brothers: Francis Earl, Glen Dale and Robert Orville Reser; two brothers-in-law, Lynn Tourtellot and Fred Hudson; three sisters-in-law: Lucille Reser, Ann Reser, and Tracy (Bromley) Reser.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to Hospice of North Iowa.
