BORN IN FLOYD COUNTY

A Funeral Mass for Robert Francis Noss, 84, of Dougherty, will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 16, 2015, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Roseville, Iowa, with Rev. Msgr. Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Dougherty. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 15, 2015, at the St. Mary School in Roseville where there will be a Wake Service at 7:00 p.m.

Robert Francis Noss was born on October 7, 1930, on the family farm in Dougherty, Floyd County, Iowa, to Carl J. and Anna (Sinnwell) Noss and died Sunday, July 12, 2015, surrounded by family on the same farm. He received his education in country school and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Dougherty, in 1948. Robert was proud to have farmed the family farm his entire life.

Robert was united in marriage to Sara Kepler on February 8, 1964, at Holy Family Church in Mason City, Iowa. This union was blessed with five children. Robert and Sara celebrated 51 years of marriage.

He was inducted into the United States Army in 1953. Robert was stationed in Germany where he was a mechanic with the corps of engineers. He was honorably discharged in 1955.

Robert served on numerous boards throughout the years, he was a firefighter for the Dougherty Fire Department for 41 years, and a member of the American Legion Post 354.

He loved going to his grandchildren’s school events and visiting with family and friends. His ‘hobby’ was tinkering in the shop or fixing anything that needed repairs on the farm. Although he officially retired 20 years ago he never really retired. Robert especially enjoyed working word search puzzles.

Living family members include his wife Sara of Dougherty; his children: Cathy (Randy) Russom, Sac City; Cindy (Mark) Davidson, Charles City; Rob (Amy) Noss, Dougherty; Mike (Kim ) Noss, Beavercreek, Ohio; Cheryl Noss, Marble Rock; grandchildren: Hillary (James Pelletier) Russom, Matt Davidson; Jen (Chris Wicks) Davidson; Annaka, Alana, Avarie, and Addison Noss; Abby, Samantha and Noah Noss; great granddaughter: Akira Pelletier; brother, Richard (Janice) Noss; sister-in-law, Jeri Noss; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Anna; one brother, Edward.
