NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Jasper W. Boyd Sr., 84, of Nora Springs died Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 2015, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs, with burial in the Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 25, 2015, from 5-7 p.m. at Sheckler Colonial Chapel.

Jasper William Boyd Sr. was born June 15, 1931, to Fred and Elma Mae (Kent) Boyd in Neosho, Missouri. He joined the United States Navy in 1951.

After being honorably discharged in 1955, Jasper married Marie Giles on November 25, 1959, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Jasper worked for Concrete materials in Cedar Rapids as a heavy equipment operator for several years. In 1970, the couple moved to Nora Springs where he began working for Welp and McCarten, which later changed names to Weavers and after that Martin Marietta, as a supervisor until his retirement in 1997.

Jasper loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves and the Minnesota Twins. When he wasn't watching baseball, Jasper enjoyed bowling, playing pool, collecting die-cast tractors and cars. Jasper loved his Cadillacs but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years, Marie (Giles) Boyd, Nora Springs; four children: Bill (Kathy) Boyd, Rockfalls, Mike (Mindy) Boyd, Mason City, Pamela "Annie Oakley" Peterson, Nora Springs, and Jasper Jr. (Kimberly) Boyd, Clear Lake; grandchildren: Amber (Shawn) Wilson, Amanda (Shawn) White, Kurt (Holly) Hallstrom, Kent (Jaynne) Hallstrom, Kristor (Sarah) Hallstrom, Casey (Ryan) Schroht, Tess (Scot) Whitehurst, Taylor (Paul Thompson) Boyd, Mykl Boyd, Davin Boyd, Brode Boyd, Nathan (Ann) Peterson, Nicholas (Ashley) Peterson, Parker (Megan) Boyd, Spencer Boyd, Stephanie Maas, and Mackenzie (Jeff) Hanna; twenty-five great-grandchildren; a brother, Gerald (Dianne) Boyd, Des Moines, and a sister, Beverly Johnson, Oskaloosa.

Jasper was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Elma Mae (Kent) Boyd, a sister, Betty, and two brothers, LeRoy and Donald.
