Service: Visitation on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m., Hauser Funeral Home

Gilman Vaine, Sr., 86, of Charles City, Iowa, and formerly of Fort Dodge, Kansas died July 23, 2015 at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles City.

Visitation will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2015.

A graveside burial with military honors will be held at a later date at Kansas Soldier Home Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Kansas.

Gilman Fred Vaine, Sr., born on September 22, 1928 to Gilman and Evelyn (Phelps) Vaine in Brattleboro, Vermont. He went to school in Puntey, Vermont. Gilman proudly served his country in the Army Air Force working as a mechanic in World War II and in the Lucian Islands.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Libby in 1954, in Canada. They moved and settled in Dodge City in 1955 then later moving to Charles City in 2006. Gilman owned his own auto repair business until retirement in 1993.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW in Fort Dodge, Kansas and a member of the Odd Fellows. Gilman was a very social, hardworking man who knew everyone. He enjoyed working on cars (Fords), and taking his wife for drives. Gilman was a devoted husband and father, who cared for his family and always made them a priority.

Living family members include his wife, Ruth, of Charles City; two children: Gilman (Murlann) Vaine, Jr. of Newton, Kansas, and Linda (Lloyd) Pierson of Charles City; a sister-in-law, Doris Vaine of Boyton, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Howard Vaine and three sons.
