Ella Rebecca (Hawks) Rex – June 10, 1877 – April 26, 1957

MRS. ELLA REX RITES HELD MONDAY

Mrs. Ella Rex, 80, passed away at the Cedar Valley Hospital, Charles City, at 6:00 p.m. Friday, following a severe stroke suffered Wednesday evening.

Mrs. Rex, who lived alone, had gone to her mail box and fell in the street. She was found shortly after by a relative, who lived nearby, and was taken by ambulance to the hospital where she never regained consciousness.

She was born June 10, 1877, at Marble Rock, the daughter of Wolsey and Phoebe (Tift) Hawks, and lived her entire life in the same home with the exception of a few winter months a year ago, which was spent temporarily with a relative.

She was united in marriage to Samuel Rex, also of Marble Rock, August 19, 1903, who passed away many years ago. Two children died in infancy.

She is survived by one brother, William Hawks of Ayrshire, one nephew and two nieces. In girlhood she united with the Christian Church formerly at Marble Rock.

Funeral services were held on Monday at Faith Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. preceded by a brief prayer service at 1:30 at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Marble Rock. Services were conducted by Rev. Vern Prugh, pastor of Faith Baptist Church. Vocalists were Mrs. Weldon Sult and Mrs. Dallas Hearn, with Mrs. Lee Lamb accompanist. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Clarence Adams and Mrs. Vern Losee. Casket bearers were Claude Losee, Earl Losee, Vern Losee, Alton Preston, Clarence Adams and Vern Smith.
Burial was in Westside Cemetery.
