Charles W. Oeser – November 22, 1899 – February 11, 1942

MARBLE ROCK WAR VET DIES
CHARLES OESER, 42, HAD BEEN AWARDED CONGRESSIONAL HONOR

Marble Rock – Charles Oeser, 42 year old veteran of World War I, died at the Cedar Valley Hospital in Charles City Wesnesday after a short illness.

Born near Marble Rock in 1899, Oeser had lived his entire life in this vicinity excepting the time he spent in the army. He was cited for bravery while serving with The Rainbow Division and was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor for returning three wounded comrades to safety from No-Man’s-Land.

Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Cora Marks, and a brother, Dalton, both of Pomona, California. His father and a brother preceded him in death.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, pending the arrival of Mrs. Marks from California, but the Marble Rock American Legion will have charge of ceremonies. The body is at the Hann Funeral Home in Greene.

In the 1900 and 1910 Census he is living in Union, Floyd, Iowa with his mother and father.

In the 1920 Census he is living in Pomona California with his widowed mother and brother Dalton Oeser.

In 1926 Charles W Oeser was in US National Home for disabled soldiers in Leavenworth, Leavenworth Co., Kansas. He was 26 born abt 1900 in Marble Rock, name and address of nearest relative Cora Marks (mother) in Pomona, California.

He was buried in Westside Cemetery, Marble Rock, Floyd, Iowa
