Helen Josephine (Nixt) Welch – March 17, 1916 – January 28, 2007

MARBLE ROCK — Memorial services for Helen J. Welch, 90, formerly of 2905 Indigo Ave., Marble Rock, will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 1, 2007, at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford St., Marble Rock, with the Rev. Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Inurnment will be in the Westside Cemetery at a later date.

There will be no visitation as cremation has been accorded.

Helen J. Nixt was born March 17, 1916, in the home that she lived in her entire life in Union Township, Floyd County, a daughter of Joseph and Emma (Nikolas) Nixt. She died Sunday (Jan. 28, 2007) at the Allison Health Care Center in Allison.

She received her education and graduated from the Marble Rock Public Schools in 1933. As a young lady, she was a housekeeper and seamstress for families in the Marble Rock area.

She loved working in her large flower and vegetable garden. It’s been said that “if Helen couldn’t make it grow, it was not meant to grow!” She will be remembered as a good cook.

Living family members include her son, Larry (Shirley) Welch, of Marble Rock; her granddaughter, Teresa (Steve) Wells, of Marble Rock; and four great- grandchildren, Aaron Wells, Alyssa Wells, Anna Wells and Sadie Wells.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Dorothy Hayungs, Marion “Pinky” Smith and Virginia Kolbet; and two brothers, Frank Nixt and Leo Nixt.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Helen J. Welch Memorial Fund in care of the family.

Memorial arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Chapel, (641) 823-4457.
