CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Mavis Kilby, 90, of Charles City died Sunday, July 5, 2015, at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Mavis Kilby, 90, of Charles City, died Sunday, July 5, 2015 at the 9th Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City surrounded by her loving family.

A funeral service for Mavis Kilby will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 10, 2015 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Visitation will be held at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2015 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

Mavis Cecile (Freiberg) Kilby, the daughter of Carl Freiberg and Sylvia (Erion) Freiberg Severson, was born January 15, 1925 in Charles City. She attended school in Charles City graduating from Charles City High School.

Mavis was united in marriage to Clement "Clem" Kilby on July 15, 1943 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. The couple made their home in Charles City where they raised their family and Mavis helped Clem farm. She worked at White Farm Equipment Co. from 1943-1944 and 1948-1952. Mavis was also employed at Salsbury Laboratories for one year and worked on the bond issue for the hospital in Charles City and became the first employee as an Administrative Assistant at Floyd County Memorial Hospital. She worked there for 25 years before her retirement.

Mavis was a member of Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church, the VFW Women's Auxiliary where she was past President and held other offices with the auxiliary. She was also part of three camping groups: Good Sam's, Happy Sam's and Wigwam and Wagon. Mavis enjoyed playing cards, camping and crocheting but her pride and joy was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Living family members include her two daughters: Sharon Friedrich of Charles City and Vicki (Alvin) Fisher of Charles City; grandchildren: Jacqueline (Ronald) Reis, Stacey Friedrich, Jodette Friedrich, Corey Fisher and Melinda Fisher; great-grandchildren: Devin and Alana Friedrich, Hailey and Trevor (Fisher) Caster, Austin (Sarah) Reis and Tarrah (Summer) Broussard; great great-grandchildren: Quinn and Avery Broussard; half-sisters: Patricia (Lyle) Bunston, Jean (James) Duffield and Carmen (Keith) Angell; half-brother, William Freiberg; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clement "Clem" Kilby on November 25, 2013; sister, Maxine Pattschull; aunt, Elsie Stewart; two half-sisters: Bonnie (Severson) Wayne and Joan Schneider; and half-brother, William Severson.
