Nina Frances Nikolas

July 7, 1895 – March 12, 1918

MORIAM

Nina Frances Nikolas, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Nikolas, was born at Marble Rock, Iowa, July 7, 1895 and passed to her reward after a two month’s illness, in Chicago, Illinois, March 12, 1918, aged 22 years, 8 months, and 4 days.

She attended the rural schools until she was 15 years of age. For three years she was a member of the Marble Rock High School. She then entered the study of nursing at Waverly for a period of one and one-half years. After resting for a time she continued her study at the “First Aid Association for the Injured Hospital” at Chicago founded by Clara Barton, graduating October 9, 1917 and would have completed her complete course in June 1918. Then she would have entered the Red Cross work at the front in Europe.

She leaves to mourn, her father and mother, four brothers, Willie, Edward, Herman and Frank; also four sisters, Emma, Mrs. Joe Nixt, Minnie, who spent seven weeks at her sister’s bedside during her dreadful illness, Erma and Dorothy; three nieces, two nephews and a very large circle of friends. The illness which caused her seemingly untimely death was caused by exposure during the heavy storm in Chicago.

Her first teacher in rural primary school work was for three years her teacher and principal in the high school. She was a pleasant, quiet and kindhearted girl who sincerely desired to be saved for service to her friends and the general welfare of mankind.

Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the home, Rev. Lilley preaching the sermon and Miss Patricia Walster rendering a beautiful solo.
