John Richard Moon – February 4, 1875 – January 24, 1950

JOHN MOON, 75 OF MARBLE ROCK DIED LAST TUESDAY

John Moon, 75 years of age, died suddenly at his home at Marble Rock Tuesday afternoon. Mr. Moon was apparently recovering nicely from a recent operation when he was stricken with a heart attack about a week ago which resulted in his death. He had been in failing health for more than a year.

Funeral services were held on Friday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Hann Funeral Home in Greene, conducted by Rev. James Delahooke of Charles City.

Hymns were played by Mrs. Maynard Bruce of Greene. The bearers were Fred Peterson, Andrew Marzen, William Thornton, Emmett Malady, Clark Melugin and Vern Losee.

Burial was in West Side Cemetery, Marble Rock.

John Richard Moon, son of a pioneer family, was born February 4, 1875, at Huey, Illinois. Many years ago he came to Iowa and Floyd County where he engaged in farming near Rudd. For the past ten years he has lived near Marble rock.

He was united in marriage to Emma Alice Ford on January 12, 1920, who survives him. He is also survived by a step son, Harold Ford, of Charles City; a half-sister, Minnie Cox and a half- brother, Bill, of Davenport; a grandson, Duane Ford,, also of Charles City, and other relatives.

John Richard Moon was born February 4, 1875 in Huey, Illinois, the son of Nathan Moon and Grace (Pearson) Moon. His father died in 1877 and his mother remarried to William Davenport.

He married Emma Alice (Hunt) Ford, the daughter of Richard Hunt and Sarah Ann (Spencer) Hunt. Her first husband was Richard D Ford, whom she divorced.

NOTE: Emma A. Moon (58) (Emma Alice Hunt Ford Moon) was found in the 1940 census living in Charles City, Iowa, ward 3. See sheet 15A of the census.

She was at that time living with her son, Harold (38) Ford, his wife Birdie (46)and son Duane (6).
