Verle Alton Melugin – November 29, 1902 – April 22, 1949

VERLE MELUGIN DIED SUDDENLY

This community was shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Verle Melugin which happened Friday, April 22, shortly after noon at Cedar Valley hospital.

Mr. Melugin was helping stake out a road near Floyd when stricken with a severe cerebral hemorrhage. He was taken to the hospital where he lived buy a few hours.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 o’clock at the Methodist Church Monday afternoon, the pastor Rev. J. W. Bearse officiating. “The Holy City,” “The Palms,” “Rock of Ages,” “Cords and Changes”, “Swinging Bells”, and “Tolling Bells” were played on the chimes by Fred Smith.

Verle Alton Melugin, son of William J. and Myrtie L. Melugin was born on a farm 4 ˝ miles west and 2 miles south of Marble Rock on November 29, 1902.

He attended the Courtright School near his home and finished his elementary schooling. He then helped his parents with the farming until the family moved to Marble Rock in 1919. Verle then worked with his father at road construction.

During his life time he has been employed at several different jobs, driving a truck for Raymond Schultz for many years. The past months he has been employed by Floyd County and worked with Elroy Ackley at which job he was engaged when fatally stricken.

He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, two sisters, Mrs. Darrow Gates of Marble Rock, Mrs. Aldo Weigman of Allison, two brothers, Berle D. Melugin of Iowa Falls and W. W. Melugin of Marble Rock, three nephews and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

Two brothers preceded him in infancy.
