Andrew J. Ramsey – September 27, 1862 – April 11, 1949

FORMER RESIDENT SUCCUMBS APRIL 11

Mrs. Andrew J. Ramsey of Lisbon, Iowa, brother of Hugh Ramsey of this place passed away at a Lisbon hospital April 11th.

Mr.. Ramsey was born September 27, 1862 on a farm in Columbia County, Wisconsin. In 1870 the family moved to Marble Rock where Mr. Ramsey attended country school and the local high school. Upon graduation he began teaching, including positions in Minnesota and South Dakota.

In 1897 he entered the school of Pharmacy in Valipariaso, Indiana and October 9, 1898 received his certificate as a registered pharmacist.

He operated a drug store at Randalia and in 1916 located at Lisbon where in October 1948 he completed fifty years of service as a registered pharmacist in Iowa. On this occasion, he received an honorary fifty year certificate from Governor Robert D. Blue.

Mr. Ramsey was one of the organizers of the Lisbon Chamber of Commerce and was its president for ten years. He served on the Lisbon town council for 17 years.

He is survived by a brother, Hugh, a sister Mrs. Agnes Ellis of Williston, North Dakota, six nieces and four nephews. His wife preceded him in death June 1936.

In Marble Rock Mrs. Ramsey will be missed at the annual high school alumni gathering where he was a faithful attendant and added much interest to the program with his remembrances of early school days here.
