Rebecca Mattie (Roschen) Ewald – April 1, 1867 – October 3, 1958

RITES HELD FOR REBECCA EWALD

Rebecca Mattie Ewald was born the daughter of William and Mata Roschen at Brooklyn, New York on April 1, 1867, and passed away on Friday afternoon, October 3, at the age of 91, years, 6 months and 3 days.

When she was 3 months of age she came with her parents to Ulster Township in Floyd County and located on a farm north of Marble Rock. She received her elementary education in the Public School near her home.

On December 29, 1887, she was united in marriage to John Ewald. The couple made their home on a farm north of Marble rock and continued to live there until their retirement to Marble Rock in 1924.

She was a member of the Lutheran Church all her life. When the St. Paul congregation was organized in 1946 she became one of the charter members.

Mrs. Ewald was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, who died in February of 1933, a son, Edgar, in 1950, four brothers, one sister, who died in infancy, another sister, who passed away in 1908 and 2 grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons, William of Rockford, John and Henry of Marble Rock; two daughters, Mrs. Mata Lines and Mrs. Dehlia Handley of Marble Rock, 15 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marble Rock with Rev. I. J. Deines officiating. Burial was held in West Side Cemetery. Hamilton’s Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
