Obituary for Esther Edith Brunner

Esther Edith Brunner, 97, of Charles City, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 9th Street Chautaqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm with a one hour prior visitation on Friday, June 26, 2015 at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home with Reverend Dennis Niezwaag officiating from St. John Lutheran Church in Charles City. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Esther was born on October 30, 1917 to Charles and Edith (Schmidt) Howe in Floyd County. She was born and raised in the Charles City area and is a lifetime resident. On June 21, 1938 she was united in marriage to Robert Brunner. To this union three children were born. Esther was a homemaker and wife. In their younger years Esther and her husband Robert enjoyed going dancing together on Saturday nights. They also enjoyed fishing. Esther was a card player and loved playing cards and bingo. She was very competitive and strong willed. Every 4th of July and Christmas she made apple bars for her family. Esther loved her family; especially her children and grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by many.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, Carol (Roger) Teeter of Charles City and Randy (Martha) Brunner of Charles City; daughter-in-law, Colleen (Duane) Ortmayer; sister-in-law, Bernadine Howe; grandchildren, Rodney (Anne) Brunner, Todd (Lynn) Teeter, Renee (Quinn) Patterson, Curt (Ann) Teeter, Doug (Sandra) Ortmayer, Tim (Jessica) Teeter, Denise (Michael) Strange and Ryan (Lisa) Brunner; 20 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son, Richard Brunner; grandson, Rory Brunner; three sisters and one brother.
