Obituary for Lois Irene Thorsen

Lois Irene Thorsen, 89, of Charles City, Iowa, died on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at 9th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am with a one hour prior visitation on Friday, June 26, 2015 at the First Baptist Church, 105 Chapel Lane, Charles City. Reverend Ruth Yeaton will be officiating. Burial will following at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Lois was born on September 6, 1925 in Charles City to Edward and Anna (Noss) Lacour. She attended rural school in Ulster Township through 8th grade. Lois graduated from Charles City High School in 1943.

On September 6, 1944 she was united in marriage to DeVon Charles Thorsen at her parents home, outdoors. To this union one son, Dennis was born. Lois was a secretary from 1956-1972 at the Charles City Press and later worked for Soil Conservation Service from 1972 until retirement in 1987.

She is survived by her son, Dennis Thorsen of St. Peter, Minnesota; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amy (Jay) Voorhees of Rosemount, Minnesota, and their children: Justin, Grace and Matthew, Bobbi Jo (Chris Kubiaczyk) Drum of Portland, Oregon and their children: Ava, Elle and Ana, Kari (Greg Patenaude) Thorsen of Seattle, Washington, and their daughter: Eleanor and Kate (Ben) Sandvik of St. Paul, Minnesota, and their children: Charlie and Gavin; three nieces and one nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Walter, Lloyd and James Lacour; sister: Dorothy Hirsch; daughter-in-law: Judy Thorsen.
