NORA SPRINGS, IOWA - Joanne Lillian (Van Riper) Jurasek, 82, of Nora Springs, peacefully entered into Heaven on Monday, April 6, 2015, at her daughter's home in Plainview, New York.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Don Kelso officiating. Burial will be in Rock Grove Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, June 26, 2015, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapels, Mason City.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions may be given to Good Shepherd Hospice 110 Bi County Blvd No. 114. Farmingdale, NY 11735.

Joanne was born on September 11, 1932, in Lake Mills, the daughter of Raymond and Hilma (Hermanson) VanRiper. She graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1950, and completed one year of college at UNI. Joanne married Ronald Jurasek on December 29, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City.

Following her schooling, Joanne worked for many years at Iowa Hardware Mutual as a claims adjustor until the birth of her daughter in 1968. She was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Nora Springs where she taught Sunday school, and served faithfully on the Altar Guild as well as other various committees throughout her years there. Joanne was also a member of Western Fraternal Lodge Velehrad No. 243 of Mason City. She served the lodge in various capacities during her years there as well.

Joanne loved visiting with people during her career as an "Avon Lady" and she was particularly fond of all the children she met along the way. Joanne will always be remembered as a kind, funny, lovely woman with a heart of gold.

Joanne is survived by her daughter and family, Joni, Bob and Rob Prevete of Plainview, New York; her sister, Verlaine Spurgeon of Boxholm; her aunt, Leila Kloster, of Lake Mills; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Viola Jurasek of Mason City; three nieces: Lori Spurgeon of Boxholm; Pam (Tom) Wingfield of Boone; Karen Jurasek of Urbandale; one nephew, Kevin (Kriston) Jurasek of Johnston, and many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her nephew.
