WILLIAM COMSTOCK PASSES AWAY

William Comstock, for many years a resident of Marble Rock, died at his home here on Monday night.
Mr. Comstock was born at Plattsburg, New York, and was 88 years of age the 4th of last May.

He came to Iowa at an early age and settled at Marble Rock, where he was married to Miss Mary Bedell, who preceded him in death.

Mr. Comstock was a veteran of the Civil War and served almost the entire four years. He was a brother of the late Mrs. William Crabtree and the late Mrs. Em Rosenkrans, of this place; and an uncle of Roy C. Crabtree, of Rockford, Mrs. Russell Smith, Mrs. Ellis Blake, of Marble Rock, and Mrs. Julia Bobbett, of Kansas, who has been here for several weeks.

Funeral services are being held this Wednesday afternoon, at the Bethel Baptist Church, in charge of the pastor, Rev. Geore Foster, with interment in the Marble Rock cemetery. Mr. Comstock held the respect of all who knew him.

The death of Mr. Comstock removes from Marble Rock our only surviving Civil War Veteran. It seems but a few years ago that we had a large company of veterans here, and in fact many can remember when the boys in blue came marching home, with the country saved and the disgrace of slavery wiped out.

Notes:

His wife's maiden name was YERRICK, not Bedell. Mary Ann Yerrick was the daughter of Simon Yerrick and Ladesa (Feller) Yerrick.

William Comstock was the son of Rufus Comstock and Ester (Griffin) Comstock.
