ROCKFORD, IOWA - Lois Hattie Eckenrod, 84, Rockford, died Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at the Nora Springs Care Center.

A funeral service for Lois will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the United Methodist Church in Rudd, 611 Sixth St., Rudd, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating.

Burial will be in the Sunny Side Memory Gardens in Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.

Lois Hattie (Beck) Eckenrod was born on December 17, 1930, in rural Bremer County, Iowa, the daughter of Lee and Helen (Bullen) Beck.

Lois graduated from Nashua High School in 1949.

She was united in marriage to Virgil Eckenrod on November 5, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, and to this marriage five children were born, Lea Ann, Bruce, Alan, Carl, and Ann.

During her life, Lois worked for Salsbury Labs in Charles City, was the city clerk in Rockford before she and her husband, Virgil, owned and operated the Rockford Building Center, and for 25 years she did in home day care.

Lois enjoyed needle work, cross stitch, sewing, painting knickknacks, doing all kinds of crafts, and going to family and her grandchildren's sporting events, but her great love and enjoyment was her family.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and ladies circle at the church in Rudd, monthly craft club, and the Moose Lodge in Charles City.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Virgil Eckenrod of Rockford; her children, Lea Ann (Don) Washington of Rockford, Bruce (Rachel) Eckenrod of Rock Rapids, Alan (Dawn) Eckenrod of Mason City, Carl (Toni) Eckenrod of Mason City, and Ann (Kelly) Ott of Osage; 38 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Don Beck of Moline, IL; her sister, June (Dan) Franzen of Nashua; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Helen Beck; daughter-in-law, Sue Eckenrod; brother, John Beck; two sisters, Velma Olsen, and Beth Bahlman; two sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.

"She lived a simple life, was a down to earth woman, but left a lasting legacy."

Lois was a loving wife of nearly 65 years, and a nurturing mom to five children.
