GERTRUDE "TRUDIE" ARLENE MURRAY

APPLE VALLEY, Minn. — Gertrude "Trudie" Arlene Murray (nee Crowell), 85, passed away peacefully on Sunday (Feb. 29, 2004) in the Apple Valley Care Center in Minnesota from a cancer-related illness.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Sr.; brothers, Francis, Glenn, and Gene; and sister, Gwendolyn Plamer.

She is survived by sister, Norma Lines, of Charles City; sons, Larry G. (Karen) and Roy Jr., and daughter, Sheila Markstrom (Greg), all in the Twin Cities. She has five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

As a young woman, Trudie's heart lead her to teach school (as her mother had) starting in Iowa's rural one-room schools. She taught school for many years in various locations in Iowa.
In her younger years, you would find her at the Cedar Inn or dancing wherever good music was enjoyed. Pretty cars and nice clothes were always a passion.

Trudie's love and appreciation for Norma, her sister, could never be understated for being the primary caregiver of their invalid father and brother while helping to raise Larry.

Following her teaching career, she enjoyed exploring the U. S. with husband Roy, and ended up raising her sons and daughter in four different states (Louisiana, California, Minnesota, and Arizona).

Later in life, reading a good crime novel, playing the piano, or enjoying a Stanwyck movie would delight her.

We will miss her determination and support. There will be a private family ceremony on Sunday afternoon at the Sandberg Funeral Home in North St. Paul, Minn.

There will be a graveside ceremony at the Rockford Cemetery in Rockford at 2 p.m. Monday.

Sandberg Funeral Home, (651) 777-2600.
