CHARLES CITY, IOWA - Larry Hirsch, 74, of Charles City died Sunday, May 10, 2015, at Mayo Clinic-St. Marys Campus in Rochester, Minnesota.
A funeral service for Larry Hirsch will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Martha Bennett from West Saint Charles Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be at the West Saint Charles Cemetery in rural Charles City.
Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. Wednesday until the time of the service at Hauser Funeral Home.
Larry Duane Hirsch, the son of Milton and Dorothy (Lacour) Hirsch, was born June 27, 1940, in Charles City. He was educated at Ulster #3 (a country school), at the Charles City Schools and at Iowa State University where he graduated in 1960 with a two-year degree in Farm Management.
On July 23, 1961, Larry was united in marriage to Beverly Perry at the First Methodist Church Chapel in Mason City. The couple moved numerous places throughout southern and central Iowa where Larry farmed, raised hogs and supplemented their income as a mechanic. They returned to Charles City in 1986 to take over the family farm and Larry also worked at the John Deere Implement in Osage for several years before “retiring.”
Larry was a member of West Saint Charles Methodist Church, Farm Bureau and National Hog Producers. He enjoyed playing cards (500 and solitaire), playing chess and loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Living family members include his three children: Jean Holthaus of Pella, Karla Meyer of Charles City and Michael (Jeanne) Hirsch of Huxley; seven grandchildren: Michelle Holthaus, Michael Holthaus, Jessica Hirsch, Tiffany Meyer, Brent Meyer, Meghan Hirsch and Katherine Hirsch; sister, Norma Hirsch of Des Moines; along with other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Beverly on August 22, 2012; and an infant son, Duane Kevin Hirsch.
