Wallace J. Greenlees – August 12, 1906 – March 24, 1945

Charles City – Funeral services for Wallace J. Greenlees, 38, farmer near Charles City, who was found dead Saturday in a silo at his home, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in charge of the Grossmann Funeral Home; burial in Riverside Cemetery.

Floyd County Coroner Carl Hauser said that it had been thought at first that Greenlees had suffocated under the ensilage but that upon examination of the body he found the Greenlees had suffered a crushed chest and broken arm when struck by large chunks of frozen ensilage that had been loosened from the silo sides by warm weather of the last few days. Coroner Hauser said he believed death had been instantaneous.

Greenlees was born August 12, 1906, the only son of James and Mary (Nickles) Greenlees, and attended the public schools, and was graduated in 1925. On June 16, 1936, he married Edith Mae Hillier, of Charles City, who with one son James LeRoy, 6; and one daughter Janice Mae 2, and his mother, Mrs. Mary Greenlees survive.

Greenlees had been a lifelong farmer in the community where he died.
