Patricia "Pat" Biwer, 85, of Charles City died Wednesday, May 6, 2015, at the 11th Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, Iowa.
A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Reverend Gary Mayer will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City.
Friends may call at Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, 2015. A Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 p.m. and a Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the Mass at the church on Saturday.
Patricia Mary (Dowd) Biwer, the daughter of Thomas and Mary (Duffy) Dowd, was born on December 28, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois. She graduated from Downers Grove High School in Downers Grove, Illinois, and in 1990 received an Associates of Science degree in business from NIACC. For most of her life she was a bookkeeper and secretary in various places, most recently L & J Welding and Becker Home Improvement. Pat was united in marriage to Merle Biwer on June 17, 1950, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She a was member of many organizations, including Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Saint Anthony's Circle, Sacred Heart Guild, Church Women United, Floyd County Historical Society, Cedar Valley Genealogical Society, Al-Anon, Book Worms, and was a charter member of the Floyd County Hospital Auxiliary.
Even when struggling with Alzheimer's, she continued her lifelong love of learning and reading. She also enjoyed playing cards (500), genealogy, and traveling, especially to Ireland and Rome. Pat was proud of her Irish heritage. She was very involved with her family and all of their activities.
Living family members include her four children: James (Margaret) Biwer of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, William (Valerie) Biwer of Charles City, Connie (Aladdin) Biwer Yaqub of Catasauqua, Pennsylvania, and John (Peggy) Biwer of Poinciana, Florida; nine grandchildren: Andrea (Jeremy) Gibbs, Thomas (Kate) Biwer, Jody (Darin) Osier, Jill (Matt) Heeren, Roy (Stephanie) Biwer; Mariam (Mike) Mead Yaqub, Ranah Yaqub; Ryan Biwer and Bradley Biwer; fourteen great grandchildren: Harrison, Nell, Mitchell, Meredith, and Wesley Gibbs; Kaleb, Layne, Koryn, and Flynn Osier; Ryder Biwer and Cullen Heeren; Logan, Ava, and Hudson Lusk; along with three nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years on September 5, 2010, her parents, one brother, Tom, and three sisters: Diane, Kathleen, and Mary.
Memorials may be directed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and Hope House.
