Robert Thomas, 74, of Charles City died Thursday, April 30, 2015 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Robert Thomas will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at the Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Jan Tjaden will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service on Tuesday.

Robert Eugene Thomas, the son of Cecil and Lavera (Vandeventer) Thomas, was born July 28, 1940 in Charles City. At the age of six, the family moved to Gassville, Arkansas where Robert attended Mountain Home Arkansas School, graduating in 1958.

On June 4, 1961, Robert married the love of his life, Karla Kay Michael. This union was blessed with four children: Rodney, Courtney, Bobbie and Jeff. Robert was an electrician working for Gil White for 30 years and Kenny Bluhm for ten. He was forced to retire in 2000 after becoming disabled, but continued his beloved trade for family and friends when needed. Robert enjoyed boating on Table Rock Lake in Missouri and at Clear Lake. He loved woodworking, especially creating things for his grandchildren like the teddy bears.

Living family members include his wife of 54 years, Karla of Charles City; children: Rodney "Pete" of Charles City, Courtney (Dawn) of Ionia, Bobbie (Tim) Petsche of Forest City and Jeff (Denise) Thomas of Charles City; eight grandchildren: Eric (Amber) Thomas, Katie Jessen (Ryan Nelson), Kelsey Thomas (Dan Bryan), Kendra Thomas, Mackenzie Thomas, Stacie Armstrong (Kyle Mulling), Stephanie Rover and Christopher Petsche; ten great-grandchildren: Kasey, Avery, Carter, Olivia, Alexis, Kole, Adan, Ethan, Jeyda and Axel; sister, Judith Billington of Iowa Falls; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; parents; sister, Donna Mae; brother, Cecil, Jr.; as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
