RUDD, IOWA - Louis Boyd Burnett, 84, of Rudd passed away April 13, 2015, at his winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 27, 2015, at Rudd United Methodist Church in Rudd with Pastor Wendy Johannesen officiating.

Visitation will be held 4-6 p.m. Sunday, April 26, 2015, at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye, Nora Springs.

Louis Boyd Burnett was born on May 3, 1930, on the family farm near Rudd to Grandon and Luella (Kling) Burnett. He graduated from Rudd High School in 1948 and Dunwoody College of Technology in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1950. Boyd married his high school sweetheart, Louise Ballhagen, on Aug. 6, 1950, at Rudd United Methodist Church. To this union two children were born, Daniel and Carolyn.

He served in the United States Air Force from 1951 to 1955. He was stationed in San Marcos, Texas, for basic training and later in San Francisco, California, for A&E mechanics. He returned to Rudd to farm with his dad. In 1966, Boyd started farming on his own north of Rudd, in addition to having a cattle and hog operation. He sold PAG, SARS and Fontanelle seed corn.

Boyd loved roller-skating, square dancing, woodworking, amateur ham radios and he collected IH Farmall toy tractors. He also loved giving his family rides in the Model T and Model A, as well as driving the cars in local parades. Boyd enjoyed the 22 years he and his wife spent at their winter home in Apache Junction, Arizona.

He was a member of Rudd United Methodist Church, Rudd AM Vets, Farm Bureau, Ham Radio group in Mason City and Apache Junction, and Antique Automobile Club of America.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 64 years, Louise Burnett, son Daniel (Becky) Burnett of Floyd, daughter, Carolyn (Don) Ewen of Rockford; grandchildren, Tonya Obermire, Jessie (Jason) Reicks, Brian Burnett, Heather (Jamie) Lechtenberg, Cole (Ada) Ewen; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Elsie Obermire, Haleigh, Gavin, and Paetyn Reicks, Samara Burnett, Tyler and Alexa Lechtenberg, Leora Marshall and Newt Ewen; brothers, Duane (Shirley) Burnett, and Rodney (Marge) Burnett; brothers-in-law, Harold Ballhagen and Royal Ballhagen and sister-in-law, Ruth Cook.

Boyd was preceded in death by his parents, grandson-in-law, Dan Obermire, sister-in-law, Jackie Ballhagen and brother-in-law, Lyle Cook.
