Alan "Al" Wegner, 56, of Ionia died Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Saint John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City. Pastor Dennis Niezwaag will officiate. Burial will be held at Saint Boniface Cemetery in Ionia.

Friends may call at the church from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 and one hour prior to the service Thursday at the Church.

Alan Ray Wegner was born July 8, 1958 in Charles City, the son of Russell and Eileen (Meyer) Wegner. He graduated from Charles City High School in 1977. On June 28, 1980 he was united in marriage to Karen Harrington at Saint Boniface Catholic Church in Ionia. They were blessed with three children. Al was a member of Saint John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Floyd County Pork Producers and the Chickasaw Sno Riders. He farmed all of his life on the family farm where he grew up and later raised his family.

Through the years of farming he loved raising pigs, calves and giving his grandchildren rides on the tractor and four wheelers. He loved to fish, go snowmobiling, deer hunt, and help his son with his race cars. Most recently Al enjoyed building and spending time at the cabin with family and friends. Al was a very social man and loved spending time and sharing laughs with his family and friends and having toddies with the neighbors.

Living family members include his wife, Karen, three children; Sarah (Tony) Knoll of Allison, Amanda (fiancée, Matt Theilen) Wegner of Nashua, Ryan Wegner of Colwell; two grandchildren: Kylie and Peyton Knoll; his mother, Eileen Wegner, and his niece and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Russell, and brother, Duane Wegner.
