Service: Thursday, April 9, 2015, Bethany Alliance Church

John Peters, 82, of Charles City, was called home on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Funeral services for John Peters will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 9, 2015 at Bethany Alliance Church in Charles City. Pastor Bill McLeland and Pastor Coulter Page will officiate. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, 2015 and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

John Harris Peters, the son of John and Tillie (Jelgerhius) Peters, was born December 6, 1932 in Chandler, Minnesota. He received his education in the Chandler Schools. John was drafted into the U.S. Army from September 1953 to September 1955 and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. On February 7, 1957, John was united in marriage to Carolyn Sankey in Chandler, Minnesota. The couple made their home in Chandler for nine years before moving to Charles City in 1966. John was a plumber and pipe fitter in Chandler and Charles City working for Wamsley Plumbing and Heating and Solvay until retiring in 1995.

John was a member of Bethany Alliance Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, flower gardening, cooking and fishing when he was able. John loved playing the harmonica for his family, especially his grandchildren who loved to watch grandpa's leg move with the beat of the music.

Living family members include his wife of 58 years, Carolyn; four daughters: Carla (John) Green of Cedar Rapids, Darla (Chuck) Moon of Riceville, Rhonda (Gary) Smith of Ramsey, Minnesota and Lisa (Jon) Thibault of St. Anthony, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson with another great-grandchild on the way; one sister, Geneva Peters of Chandler, Minnesota; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Krysta Moon; one brother, Harris John Peters; and three sisters: Harriet Rietsma, Johanna Halbersma and Gertrude Prins.
