Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Kearns-Dykeman Chapel for Miss Hattie J. Whitney, 81, of 315 Bryant St., who died in Allen Memorial Hospital at 8:15 a.m. Wednesday of a heart attack.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday and until the service time on Saturday. Those who wish may contribute to the organ fund of the Grace United Methodist Church in her name. Dr. C. H. Pettersen, visitation pastor of the Grace United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Rockford, Iowa,

She was born in Rockford on September 10, 1890, the daughter of Surrene B. and Mary Jane Halstead Whitney. She never married. She was graduated from the Rockford High School and Upper Iowa College.

Miss Whitney taught mathematics starting in various rural schools from 1908 to 1910; then in Leori Schools from 1914 to 1918. From 1918 to 1919 she served as a clerk with the War Department in Washington, D.C. She then came to Waterloo where she taught mathematics at East Junior High School from 1920 to 1954 and at Logan Junior High School from 1954 until her retirement in 1956.

She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, Waterloo Business and Professional Women, Iowa Teachers Association of Northeast Iowa, National Retired Teachers Asso. and the PEG.

She has no surviving relatives and was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.
