Reda Marie (Baxter) Neir was born in Vandalia, Missouri on January 18, 1921, the daughter of Turner and Geneva (Doyle) Baxter. When she was two years old the family moved to Rockford, Iowa. She received her education at the Rockford public schools. At the age of thirteen the family moved to a farm by Powersville, Iowa where she resided until her marriage. Marie accepted Jesus as her personal Savior when she was thirteen at Daily Vacation Bible School. On February 8, 1940, she was united in marriage to Arthur Neir in a double wedding at Powersville with Raymond Baxter and Minnie Neir. They lived on the family farm for fifty years where they raised their six children. Marie and Arthur moved to Charles City in 1989. In addition to all the work she did at home and on the farm, Marie worked for Dr. and Mrs. Ray Fox from 1960 - 1985. She also worked for Home Health from 1978 - 1996. She continued caring for people until 2002 in private homes.

Marie and Arthur were founding members of the Powersville Church and instrumental in moving the church to Charles City in 1961. She continued serving the Lord at Bethany Alliance Church. She was part of Women's Missionary Fellowship, played piano for many years and taught Sunday school and was assistant treasurer at Bethany Alliance Church. She especially loved and was loved by the children at Bethany Alliance Church, in her neighborhood and everywhere she went. Marie was President of Chat-A-Bit Club and later joined the Ulster Homemakers.

She loved playing cards and usually beat the rest of us! In later years she looked forward to Thursday evening when a group of friends came to play "Golf" with her. Marie was a lover of flowers and always had large gardens of both vegetables and flowers. Many hours were spent tending the garden "putting" up all her bounty. Marie loved watching sports, especially her beloved Hawkeyes. Her grandchildren will always remember all the cookies she baked. Raiding Grandma's deep freeze for cookies was a regular occurrence.

Living family members include her children: Barbara Kock of Charles City, Sharon (Norm) Adamson of Boone, Ruth (Curt) Nelson of Marion, South Dakota, Stephen (Helen) Neir of Mankato, Minnesota, Paul (Karla) Neir of Richland Hills, Texas and Dan (Peggy) Neir of Roscoe, Illinois; 20 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; sister, Darlene Heitz of Charles City; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur on February 14, 1997; granddaughter, Jolene Kock; great-granddaughter, Danielle Glynn; great-grandson, Joshua Holton; two sons-in-law: Leon Anderson and Darell Kock; two sisters: Ina Mae Eliasen and Irene Vandever; and two brothers: Everett and Raymond Baxter.
